Donald Trump, the oldest elected president in US history, headed for his second medical examination of the year on Friday, insisting he remains in “great shape” both physically and mentally.
The 79-year-old Republican leader is scheduled to address troops at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington before undergoing his check-up — a visit that comes just three months after the White House revealed he had been diagnosed with a vein condition.
According to the White House, the upcoming evaluation was described as an “annual” check-up, despite Trump having already undergone a similar assessment in April. Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump clarified, “I’m going to do a sort of semi-annual physical. I’m in great shape… physically, I feel very good. Mentally, I feel very good.”
Comparison to Former Presidents
During the conversation, Trump compared his cognitive and physical fitness to that of his predecessors, notably former President Joe Biden. “I also did a cognitive exam which is always very risky, because if I didn’t do well, you’d be the first to be blaring it — and I had a perfect score,” Trump said.
He went on to add, “Did Obama do it? No. Did Bush do it? No. Did Biden do it? I definitely did. Biden wouldn’t have gotten the first three questions right.”
Health Concerns and Speculations
Despite his assertions of good health, Trump has often faced speculation about his medical condition, particularly regarding visible bruises on his right hand and swelling in his legs. In July, the White House confirmed that the president was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a benign but persistent vein condition.
Officials clarified that the bruising was linked to Trump’s use of aspirin as part of a standard cardiovascular program. The former president has since been seen applying makeup to conceal discoloration during public appearances.
In September, Trump dismissed false social media claims about his health — including viral posts suggesting he had passed away — calling them “nonsense.”
At his previous medical review, doctors reported that Trump was in good health with “a normal cardiac structure and function, and no signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness.”
As the 2024 US presidential election cycle intensifies, Trump’s health remains under scrutiny, but his latest comments signal confidence in both his stamina and mental sharpness.
