Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation of Nominees for FCCPC, NPC, RMAFC, NERC

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting the screening and confirmation of several nominees for key federal agencies, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), the National Population Commission (NPC), the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
In a letter dated July 31, 2025, and read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President sought legislative approval for the appointment of two commissioners to the FCCPC. The nominees are Louis Odion from Edo State, who is to serve as Commissioner for Operations, and Ùmmueelm Ìsiyaku Rabiu from Kano State, nominated as Commissioner for Corporate Services.
President Tinubu also requested the Senate’s confirmation of nominees for the National Population Commission (NPC). They include Agbaje Opeyemi Olukoye as Chairman from the South-West; Hon. Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim as Commissioner (Technical) representing the North-West; Samuel Chigozie Uwande as Commissioner (Inspectorate) representing the South-East; Charles Efe Sylvester as Commissioner (Finance) representing the South-South; Bello Abubakar Malabu as Commissioner (Administration) representing the North-East; and Omolola Bridget Oliworaran as Director-General representing the South-West.
Other NPC nominees listed in the correspondence are Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonge Betara Bularafa from Yobe State, both nominated as Commissioners.
In a separate letter, the President also requested the confirmation of five nominees for the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). Those nominated include Bello Abubakar Wammako (Sokoto State), Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha (Borno State), Senator Marafa Bashir Abba (Taraba State), Ahmed Waziri Hassan (Adamawa State), Bob Helen Inafe (Bayelsa State), and Gboyega Oladele (Osun State).
For the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the President nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramal as Chairman, alongside Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashaun as Commissioner for Finance Management Services.
Additionally, the President forwarded the name of Mr. Obehi Aire Okafor for confirmation as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund.
The Senate is expected to refer the nominations to its relevant committees for screening before their final confirmation.
