Samsung Galaxy S25 FE Review

Samsung’s newest Fan Edition phone delivers flagship-inspired features at a lower price—but how much compromise is involved?

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 FE is positioned as a smart value alternative within the company’s flagship lineup. With a $649 price point, a slim 7.4 mm body, a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 4,900 mAh battery and full support for Galaxy AI features, it brings serious hardware and software upgrades to the “Fan Edition” class. Samsung it+2PhoneArena+2 But while the spec sheet is compelling, careful buyers should weigh performance compromises and what they’re missing compared to “full flagship” models.

Design & Build: Lightweight Flagship Feel

At 161.3 mm x 76.6 mm x 7.4 mm and just 190g in weight, this is Samsung’s thinnest and lightest FE to date. Samsung it+1 The phone features slim bezels (1.47 mm top/left), a high screen-to-body ratio (~90%), Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back and an Armor Aluminum frame—premium build choices unusual in this price tier. Samsung it Four finish options (Jet Black, Icy Blue, Navy, White) highlight the “premium mid-tier” positioning.

In practice, the phone feels like a flagship in the hand: light yet sturdy. One caveat: its 76.6 mm width means one-hand use remains a stretch for users with smaller hands. The camera bump is controlled but still protrudes enough to make the phone slightly wobble when laid flat.

Display: Smooth & Solid, With a Few Limits

The S25 FE boasts a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080). Samsung Global Newsroom+1 While it lacks the higher-resolution QHD displays seen on flagship models, the 120Hz refresh ensures smooth scrolling and responsiveness. The “Vision Booster” tech improves outdoor visibility.

Viewing experience is outstanding for the price: bright, vivid colours, deep blacks and no obvious compromise in panel quality. That said, the 1080p resolution means it may not match the sharpness of QHD competitors—most users won’t notice, but content creators may prefer higher detail. The adaptive refresh stays at 60-120Hz (not 1Hz), which slightly affects battery saving potential. SamMobile

Performance: Solid With A Few Cost-Savings

Under the hood, the S25 FE uses the Exynos 2400 (4nm) with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB storage options. PhoneArena+1 Early benchmarks show respectable performance, but it trails behind Samsung’s Snapdragon-equipped S25 models and some premium rivals. The trade-off is expected at this price. The 4,900 mAh battery and improved cooling systems help the phone maintain consistent performance even under extended use. Tom’s Guide

For everyday apps, media consumption, social, and even moderate gaming, the experience is smooth. Hardcore gamers or users running intensive workloads may find slightly better performance in higher-tier models.

Camera System: Familiar Layout With Smart Tweaks

The rear setup mirrors last year’s FE model: 50MP main, 12MP ultra wide, 8MP telephoto (3x optical zoom). SamMobile+1 The real improvement is the 12MP front-facing camera (up from 10MP) plus new Galaxy AI software features: generative edits, on-device translation, object erasing, Note Assist and more. In daylight, photos are sharp, colours pleasing and HDR well-handled. The ultra-wide is capable though lacks autofocus (which limits the macro-style flexibility). Low-light performance is good, if not class-leading—noise is kept in check, but the telephoto lens shows softness beyond 3x zoom. Video supports 4K 60fps. Real-world camera experience is strong for this tier, though enthusiasts may prefer the zoom/bokeh performance of higher-end models.

Battery Life & Charging: Everyday Reliability

The S25 FE packs a 4,900 mAh battery and supports 45W wired charging and 15W wireless. Android Headlines+1 Samsung claims fast wired charging can reach ~65% in 30 minutes. In typical day-to-day use (screen time, streaming, moderate gaming) it easily lasts a full day—and often into a second for light users.

The wireless charging is a welcome addition, though 15W is modest compared to rivals offering 30–50W wireless. Also note: charger often sold separately in some markets.

Software & Features: FLAGSHIP AI Tools, Mid-Tier Limits

The phone ships with One UI 8 based on Android 16, and is part of Samsung’s Galaxy AI push—features like Gemini Live (Google’s AI), Circle to Search, Photo Assist, AI-Edit suggestions and Instant Slow-Mo are built-in. Tom’s Guide Samsung guarantees 7 years of OS/security updates—a great value in this tier. Android Central

Connectivity includes IP68 rating, stereo speakers, in-screen fingerprint, Wi-Fi 6E, and strong 5G band support. Some more advanced features (Wi-Fi 7, ultra high-res camera sensors, pro video modes) are reserved for flagship models.

Value & Competition: Strong Choice With Thoughtful Trade-Offs

Starting at around $649 (8GB/128GB) in many regions, the S25 FE positions itself as the “affordable flagship”. At that price you get premium build, high refresh display, AI-features normally reserved for top-tier devices.

Buy it if you:

  • Want flagship build and features without high-end pricing.

  • Value long update support and smart AI tools.

  • Use the phone for everyday media, adept at social, photo, streaming.

Consider other options if you:

  • Want the highest resolution display, more powerful telephoto zoom or ultra-fast wireless charging.

  • Are a heavy gamer or video pro seeking top-tier performance.

  • Prefer smaller devices or ultra-compact format.

Verdict: Exceptional Mid-Range Flagship — With Realistic Expectations

The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE delivers an impressive balance: premium build, high-refresh display, strong battery, rich camera hardware plus flagship-level AI—all at accessible pricing. While it doesn’t beat true flagship phones in every spec (zoom camera, display resolution, ultra-fast wireless) it succeeds in offering most of what many users need, very well.

Final Score: 8.9/10
Pros: Excellent construction & weight, smooth display, rich AI features, long update support.
Cons: Display resolution & zoom camera modest compared to full flagships, wireless charging slower, chipset not top-tier.

If you’re looking for a high-value smartphone that ticks nearly all the right boxes without the ultra-premium cost, the S25 FE stands out. It might not be the absolute “best” single phone for every specification, but for most users it’s the smartest buy in 2025.
