Guwahati — Emotional scenes unfolded on Tuesday at a private university in Guwahati as shooting resumed for ‘Roi Roi Binale’, the final film of late music icon Zubeen Garg. The late singer’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, his sister Palme Borthakur, and other family members were present to oversee the completion of his dream project.
The film, which held special significance for Garg, is set for a nationwide release on October 31 — a date he personally chose before his untimely death.
“We came to the sets to complete a few final scenes of ‘Roi Roi Binale’. This was Zubeen’s dream project,” Garima Saikia Garg told reporters. “While editing, we realised some scenes were missing. It was supposed to be completed after his return from Singapore, but that never happened. We are now finishing it exactly as he wanted. Zubeen had said this movie must release on October 31, and we’re determined to make that happen.”
Zubeen Garg tragically passed away by drowning in Singapore on September 19 while attending a cultural festival. His sudden demise left the Assamese music and film fraternity in mourning.
Director Rajesh Bhuyan, who helms ‘Roi Roi Binale’, confirmed that AI technology will be used to recreate Garg’s voice for a few portions of the film. “We have recorded samples of Zubeen’s voice, and since almost 80-90% of the audio is clear from lapel recordings, we will retain his original voice,” Bhuyan said.
He added that the movie — which marks Assam’s first musical feature film — was a labour of love for the late singer, who personally handled the story and music. “We’ve been working on this project for nearly three years. Except for the background score, everything was completed. As a tribute to Zubeen, we’ll release it on the date he wanted — October 31 — not just in Assam, but across India.”
The upcoming release is being hailed as both a cinematic and emotional farewell to one of Assam’s most celebrated artists, whose legacy continues to inspire millions through his music and art.
