Trump Says There Is ‘Real Chance’ for Gaza Peace Deal

WASHINGTON — United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts to secure a peace agreement in Gaza, saying there was a “real chance” that the talks could lead to lasting stability in the Middle East.

Speaking at the White House during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, President Trump said negotiators from the United States were actively involved in indirect discussions between Israel and Hamas taking place in Egypt.

“We are very close to making a deal on the Middle East that will bring peace to the region,” Trump said. “There’s a real chance that we could do something. I think there’s a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East — something even beyond the Gaza situation. We want a release of the hostages immediately.”

The White House confirmed on Monday that Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are part of the diplomatic team working on the negotiations. According to officials, both have been coordinating with international mediators to bridge the remaining gaps between the warring sides.

Trump said his administration was committed to supporting the peace process and ensuring compliance if an agreement is reached.

“Our team is over there now, another team just left, and other countries — literally every country in the world — has supported the plan,” he said. “The United States will do everything possible to make sure everyone adheres to the deal.”

The remarks came as negotiators from both sides marked the second anniversary of the October 7 attack, which reignited hostilities between Israel and Hamas. The latest diplomatic push, backed by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, aims to establish a ceasefire and pave the way for long-term peace and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
