Elon Musk Says Sorry to Donald Trump After Public Fight

Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla and SpaceX, has publicly apologized to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Musk posted his apology on his X account (formerly Twitter), where he has over 208 million followers. He said he was sorry for some of the harsh things he said about Trump last week.

In his post, Musk wrote: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”

This apology comes after a big argument between the two men, which caused Tesla’s stock price to drop sharply before recovering. The fight showed how Musk’s businesses can be affected by his political comments.

How the Fight Started

The disagreement began last week when Musk accused Trump of being connected to Jeffrey Epstein, a wealthy man who was involved in crimes with underage girls. Musk also criticized Trump’s financial policies, including something called the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Trump then threatened to stop government funding and contracts for Tesla and SpaceX. Both companies receive a lot of money from the U.S. government.

Because of this fight, Tesla’s value dropped by $152 billion in just one day, and its stock price fell by 14.2%. Musk also shared an old video from 1992 showing Trump with Epstein, which made the situation worse.

Trump’s own company, Trump Media & Technology Group, also lost 8% of its stock value, and a cryptocurrency linked to Trump (called $Trump) fell by 12%.

From Friends to Enemies

Before this fight, Musk and Trump had a good relationship. Musk had even donated $275 million to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. He was also leading a government group called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

But on June 6, 2025, a news report from Al Jazeera said Musk’s claims about Trump and Epstein had no real proof. Some people think Musk made these accusations because Tesla’s sales are struggling, and the company is about to launch a new robotaxi in Austin, Texas.

Trump, during a meeting with Germany’s leader, Friedrich Merz, said he was disappointed in Musk. He suggested that Musk was only criticizing him because the government had stopped some electric car subsidies (money given to help people buy Tesla cars).

Markets React to Musk’s Apology

After Musk apologized on June 11, 2025, at 7:04 AM (West Africa Time), Tesla’s stock price went up by 3.8% by midday. This helped recover some of the losses from the past week.

Trump has already said in a podcast (recorded on June 9) that he “has no hard feelings” toward Musk. This has made investors less worried about the government punishing Tesla or SpaceX.

However, experts are still being careful because SpaceX is important for NASA missions, and Tesla depends on government contracts. If Musk and Trump make peace, it could help both companies.

Why Did Musk and Trump Fight?

The problems started when Musk left the DOGE group and began criticizing Trump’s taxes and business policies. Tesla has been struggling in 2025, partly because some people don’t like Musk’s strong political opinions.

Some investors, called short-sellers, made billions of dollars betting against Tesla’s stock during this fight.

Musk’s claims about Trump and Epstein have not been proven, and the FBI is still reviewing secret files related to Epstein.

Trump had threatened to cancel SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft missions and remove electric car subsidies, which would hurt Tesla.

Is Musk Just Trying to Protect His Business?

Some people think Musk apologized to avoid more damage to his companies. Tesla is about to show off its new robotaxi, and it needs government approval to succeed.

Reports say that people in the White House were planning a phone call to help Musk and Trump make up, but Trump was hesitant at first.

Musk has a history of saying controversial things and then later apologizing. He has done this with Twitter (now X), Tesla factories, and other issues.

What Happens Next?

Right now, Tesla’s stock is recovering, but there could still be political and legal problems. The discussion about Epstein’s files is still going on, and Musk’s apology did not mention it.

For Trump, this apology might mean they can work together again. But it’s not clear if the government will change its policies toward Tesla and SpaceX.

This situation shows how Elon Musk has to balance his businesses, his political views, and his public image—all while staying in the spotlight.
